Last night, at around 11:30pm, Allison was stricken with acute mountain sickness (AMS). AMS is a pathological effect of high altitude on humans, caused by acute exposure to low air pressure (less oxygen). She was unable to continue. In a display of maternal love (or maternal convenience), Michelle opted to stay with her.
Brian and Kevin left at 6:00am and made it to the Uhuru Peak at 1:00pm. They remained at the summit for a half hour, taking pictures, marking the territory, and probably uttering "You da Man", "No, You da Man" a few times. Brian is reported to have vomited on the way up, and again on the way down. Kevin did not vomit until he got back down to the tent.
Allison is feeling "better". Michelle is feeling "great". Kevin and Brian are bushed. All are excited to be staying at a hotel with a shower in Arusha tomorrow night.
