Tanzania is located about half way down the right side of Africa, just below the equator.
Tanzania is home to the largest lake (Victoria), the deepest lake (Tanganyika), and the tallest peak (Kilimanjaro) in Africa. Dr. Jane Goodall studied chimpanzee behavior in the Gombe National Park. The early twentieth century anthropologist, Dr. Louis Leakey and his wife Mary made several significant discoveries in the Olduvai Gorge. These included footprints that are three million years old.
Most of the folks in Tanzania speak Swahili. This will make if very difficult for our travelers to communicate with the locals. It is as though they have a different word for everything. Mlima is the Swahilia word for "mountain". Juu is Swahili for "up".
