Cold and windy at Moir camp tonight. Brian and I realized last night that we really got sunburned yesterday. Our backs (neck) were facing the brutal sun for several hours, however it was in the 50's-60's and breezy so we did not feel the burning. Michelle and Allison wore hoods, so their necks were protected. Brian's arms were fried.
Today was better than yesterday - lot's of gradual uphill and little down hill - we netted an increase in elevation of 2,350 feet. The altitude is starting to be noticeable - Brian and I have headaches and our resting heart rate is in the 80's-90's rather than the 60s and 70s. Our blood O2 saturations are all down about 8-10%.
The first two days were muddy. Today was dry and windy. It was impossible to stay clean. Everything is covered in a film of dirt - like reddish brown talcum powder. With the exception of brushing our teeth personal hygiene is really not in the picture. I'm sure we will have to wash everything twice when we get home.
We had a hot lunch today and will again tomorrow. Today we were above the clouds - it really looked cool - clouds out as far as you could see, only below us. The night sky is amazing - no pollution and of course some different stars than from the northern hemisphere. Dinner tonight was leek soup which was very good, followed by spaghetti. Michelle and I have no appetite but eat because we know we need to (and our guide is pretty determined that we eat). Brian and Allison still have an appetite.
